MIAMI — Sylmarie Trujillo was featured in FIU Law’s Alumni News for her role in the first-ever Helms-Burton jury trial, where a federal jury awarded $29.8 million in damages against four Expedia corporate defendants.
“I am grateful for the teamwork and camaraderie of my colleagues—through careful planning, delegating tasks based on our strengths, and efficient time management, we were able to charter a path to victory,” Sylmarie said.
Sylmarie served on the Rivero Mestre trial team, alongside Andres Rivero, Jorge A. Mestre, and Ana C. Malavé. She played a key role throughout the trial, conducting direct and cross examinations, managing demonstratives, contributing to pre-trial strategy, and providing real-time support in the courtroom.
Sylmarie earned her J.D. at FIU College of Law in 2014. She focuses her practice on complex, cross-border disputes, specifically involving Latin America. She has played an important role in a wide-range of high-stakes litigation matters involving the FCPA, fraud, tort claims, federal and state court litigation, and international arbitration. She leverages her strong attention to detail, excellent writing and communication skills, and data-focused mind to consistently produce high-quality work products.
