MIAMI – Jorge A. Mestre spoke at the American Bar Association’s 2011 Annual Meeting held from August 4 through August 9 in Toronto, Canada. The assembly is the nation’s premier gathering of legal professionals and brings together more than 1,500 top quality legal programs, events, and presentations by leading law experts.

Mestre spoke on a panel that discussed the recent decision of the European Court of Justice holding that in-house attorneys’ communications are not protected by the attorney-client privilege, the use of 28 U.S.C. § 1782 as a tool in obtaining discovery in the United States in aid of foreign proceedings, and apparent efforts by the United States to ramp up its investigation and enforcement efforts under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

He serves on several ABA committees including on the Steering Group to the International Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Steering Group to the International Arbitration Committee, and as Vice-chair of the Latin America and Caribbean Committee. He also serves on the Coalition of Racial and Ethnic Justice.

Mestre’s practice is focused exclusively on commercial litigation, including international arbitration and litigation. He has litigated domestic and international arbitration matters in both English and Spanish.
