MIAMI – Jorge A. Mestre represented the Hispanic National Bar Foundation (HNBF) at the White House Hispanic Community Action Summit in Miami, Florida, on December 2, 2011. The summit connected senior Obama Administration officials from diverse policy areas with Hispanic leaders, business owners, and other community stakeholders to discuss issues critical to the Hispanic community, Miami, and the nation.

The HNBF’s mission is to help Hispanics achieve their potential through access to higher education and increased diversity in the legal profession. The foundation achieves its goals by providing education, resources, mentorship, and the access necessary to ensure full and equal opportunity for Hispanics. Mestre participated in the Summit on behalf of the HNBF to make sure that these goals move to the forefront of White House policy.

Active in the community, Mestre serves as a member of the board of directors of the American Bar Association’s Coalition of Racial and Ethnic Justice, as Vice-chair of the Latin America and Caribbean Committee, the Steering Group to the International Energy & Natural Resources Committee and the Steering Group to the International Arbitration Committee. In the past, he served as vice-president of the Cuban American Bar Association and as a member of the board of directors of the Dade County Bar Association, two of the largest voluntary bar associations in Florida. He is also an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University School of Law, where he teaches international arbitration.
